THE LAUGHING MAN

you ever hear that saying about how if u mess with time, eventually time messes with you back? idk if thats true or not. but after what happened to a guy i used to work with, i kinda wonder.

His name was Ted Burger. yeah i know, sounds fake. its not. or at least i dont THINK it is.

anyway, me and Ted worked together at this IT company years ago. thankfully i dont work there anymore. probably for the best.

I knew Ted pretty well. most people thought he was some super hard worker. thats what everybody always said anyway. they were wrong.

Ted was lazy as absolute hell. and somehow he was REALLY good at it. The guy treated work like it was some kind of game where the goal was getting paid as much as possible while doing basically nothing. Bathroom breaks were insane. im not joking. Sometimes he'd vanish for an hour. One time i swear he disappeared for almost two. Looking back i honestly dont think Ted spent more than 4 hours a day at his actual desk.

And the weird part? nobody noticed. Seriously. Nobody. Except me.

Then something weird happened.

One night i was staying late trying to finish some stuff before a deadline. Office was mostly empty.

Then i heard something coming from the restroom. At first i ignored it. buildings make noises. Pipes make noises. Air conditioning makes noises. but this wasnt that. It sounded like a laugh. or... something close to a laugh. And i know that sounds dumb. but it wasnt normal. I cant really explain it. It sounded like somebody laughing after hearing the funniest joke ever told, except there was something wrong with it. Like it didnt belong. Like hearing laughter underwater. Or hearing a recording played backwards. The second i heard it i got this horrible feeling in my stomach.

Pretty normal right? Yeah. Thats what i thought too. now this is probably where ur expecting me to say i walked in there to investigate.

Lol. absolutely not. I’ve seen enough horror movies to know where THAT goes. If anybody was gonna check it out it was gonna be Nolan. without question. i wouldve sent him in there immediatly.

if some cursed ghost demon thing was hiding in the stalls it could eat him first.

and honestly? i wouldnt have felt that bad about it. Nolan was always stealing my donuts. all of them. every time. guy was a menace.

Anyway i never found out what caused the laugh. not that night. couple minutes later i packed my stuff and left. It was already late and there was no chance i was staying in that building any longer than i absolutely had to. Next morning Ted was gone. Like gone gone.

My boss told everybody that Ted had quit during the night. No warning, no goodbye email, no explanation. Nothing. he just disappeared.

and nobody ever heard from him again.

I’ve thought about it a lot over the years. what was that laugh? what happened in that restroom? did something happen to Ted that night? or did Ted do something? was whatever happened in there the reason he left?

I honestly have no idea. maybe theres a perfectly normal explanation. Maybe Ted found a better job and im connecting dots that arent really there. maybe.

But every now and then i remember that sound. And i get the same feeling i got that night. That feeling that something wasnt right. That there was somebody else in that restroom. or maybe something else. idk

What do u guys think? anybody ever experience anything like this? or maybe somebody out there actually knew Ted? if so leave a comment.
